Chibuzo Emmanuel, a 40-year-old jobless man, was sentenced to three years in prison by a Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on Thursday for obtaining stolen train batteries and cylinders.
Along with 52-year-old Adamu Danbaba, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, has accused Emmanuel with receiving stolen items and theft.
The Nigeria Railway Corporation, North Central District, Kafanchan, filed a complaint at the Corp’s headquarters on May 13, according to the NSCDC prosecutor, Mr. Marcus Audu, who testified in court.
According to Audu, Danbaba, a railway employee, took 12 kg of cylinders and two train batteries from his office and sold them to Emmanuel for N24,000.

He pointed out that the offence violated the Kaduna State Penal Code Law’s sections 271 and 302.
After the charges were read to the defendants, Danbaba refuted the allegations against him, while Emmanuel entered a guilty plea and asked the court for mercy.
In an attempt to have Emmanuel tried summarily, the prosecution begged the court for an extension of time to summon witnesses and present evidence against Danbaba.
Judge Michael Bawa’s decision resulted in Emmanuel receiving a three-year prison sentence and the remanding of Danbaba.
Bawa postponed the case’s hearing until June 24.
