Man Faces Charges for Alleged Theft and Threats to Life in Ebonyi State
Oluchukwu John, a 44-year-old man, appeared before Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court 6 in Ebonyi State on Friday, facing charges of stealing and threatening the life of David Okorie-Ugbana.
The defendant pleaded not guilty and is being tried for conspiracy, assault, stealing, and threat to life.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Lilian Aliede, the defendant committed the offenses on March 30th in Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Aliede stated that the defendant, along with others who are currently at large, threatened the life of Okorie David-Ugbana, causing him fear.
The prosecutor also mentioned that the defendant damaged a fence valued at N1.4 million and sharp sand valued at N45,000, both belonging to Everest Okorie.

Additionally, the defendant stole 50 bags of cement valued at N380,000, property of Okorie Everest.
The defense counsel, Mr. Solomon Eguji, requested bail for the defendant, assuring the court that he would not flee and would provide reliable sureties.
The Chief Magistrate, Prince Ogboji, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in the same amount, along with a one-year tax receipt.
The surety must be within the jurisdiction of the court.
The magistrate also approved the transfer of the case to the area of jurisdiction and adjourned the matter until May 2nd for mention.
