Man Detained for Allegedly Murdering His 4-Year-Old Son in Edo

A man has been detained by authorities in Edo following the alleged murder of his 4-year-old son, as investigations continue into the heartbreaking incident.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested Theophilus Osazuwa for allegedly murdering his four-year-old son in a tragic incident believed to be influenced by hard drugs.

The tragic incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson. It took place at Osazuwa’s home in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road in Benin City.

According to reports, Osazuwa had just arrived home when he allegedly entered a trance and committed the act.

The police suspect that his drug use influenced the actions that resulted in the loss of his son’s life.

While in a trance, the suspect allegedly shouted “Holy Ghost fire,” seized the four-year-old boy, and forcefully slammed him against the wall, which led to the child’s death.

Yamu reported that the Edo Police Command has arrested Theophilus Osazuwa from Ogbeson Quarters, located off Benin-Agbor Road in Benin City, on charges of murdering his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa.

According to reports, the suspect arrived at his home on December 24, 2024, around 12:30 PM. He began shouting “Holy Ghost fire” and then grabbed a four-year-old boy, violently throwing him against the wall. The child was transported to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

The initial investigation showed that the young man, known for using illegal substances like ice, likely acted while under their influence.

He mentioned that Umoru Ozigi, the state’s Commissioner of Police, warned young people about the dangers of consuming illegal substances and drugs. He stressed their harmful health effects and highlighted potential risks to both their own lives and public safety.
