Man City and Chelsea draw after an exhilarating 8-goal match
In a thrilling match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Mauricio Pochettino’s team held Pep Guardiola’s squad to a 4-4 draw thanks to a stoppage time penalty scored by former Manchester City player Cole Palmer.
Erling Haaland gave Manchester City the lead in the 25th minute when he scored from the penalty spot after Marc Curcurella had pulled the Norwegian down in the 18-yard area as he was rushing towards a cross from Bernardo Silva.
With just four minutes remaining, Conor Gallagher’s assist allowed Thiago Silva to header to get Chelsea back into the match. Raheem Sterling scored against his old team in the 37th minute to give Chelsea the lead for the first time in the game.
Shortly before halftime, Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji levelled. Erling Haaland dragged the ball into the net two minutes into the second half, giving the visitors their second lead of the game.
As both teams continued to hunt for more goals in the legendary match, Nicolas Jackson tied the score for Chelsea in the 67th minute after Ederson misplayed Galagher’s effort into the feet of the Senegal international.
In the 86th minute, Silva deflected a shot by Rodri just outside the 18-yard box, giving Manchester City the lead once more and sending custodian Roberto Sanchez the wrong way.
Palmer, a City academy alumnus, emerged victorious in the game’s finale by coolly scoring the penalty kick given to Chelsea. By removing Armando Borja’s pass inside the area, Ruben Dias helped Chelsea salvage a well-earned point.
