Issac Maforikan, 25, was arrested by the Lagos Police on Friday in Badagry on charges of attempted murder and violence on a couple.

An unidentified defendant is accused of assault, attempted murder, and malicious damage on three counts.

In contrast, he entered a not guilty plea in front of the Badagry Chief Magistrates Court.

The defendant committed the charges on April 20 at 10:00 a.m. on Christ Army Avenue, Egbede Road, Lagos State, according to the prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose.

According to him, the defendant tried to murder Chioma Uzoma and her spouse.

Okuoimose claimed Moforikan destroyed a property worth N1,500,000 that belonged to Chioma Uzoma, another complainant, on April 16 at 12:01 pm on Olokobi Shibiri Road in Ajangbadi, Lagos State.

“Maforikan broke glass, show glasses, creams, perfumes, and other complaint property worth N1,500,000.

According to the prosecutor, “the defendant threatened to shoot Chioma Uzoma and her husband on the same day.”

In addition, according to Okuoimose, the defendant struck Chigozie Uzoma in the head with a nail-tipped stick, causing a severe cut.

He said that by combining ground bottle with the food Uzoma was about to consume, the defendant tried to murder him.

“He was arrested and handed over to the Police for prosecution,” he claimed.

According to the prosecution, the offences violated Sections 173, 230, and 457 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.

The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N200,000 with two sureties in the same amount by the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Fadahunsi Adefioye.

He stipulated that one of the sureties be a blood relative of the defendant and the other, a reverend.

He mandated that both sureties show proof of paying taxes for the previous three years.

The case was postponed to September 19 for mention by Adefioye.
