Ogungbe Emmanuel, 60, who is accused of assaulting his wife’s attorney in a family court case, was docked in front of the Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday.
Ogungbe, whose residential location was withheld, entered a not guilty plea to the two counts of assault and public disturbance.
Ogungbe committed the offence on May 15 on the grounds of the Chief Magistrate Court Ebute Metta West, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Inspector Kolade Tedunjaye, who testified in court.
Tedunjaye said Ogungbe assaulted Alowonle Yetunde, who acted as his wife’s representative in an Ogungbe-related family dispute.

He said that Ogungbe attacked the lawyer and seriously injured her while providing her with professional services.
According to Tedunjaye, the offence contravenes sections 168 and 173 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
Ogungbe was granted bail in the amount of N500,000 by Magistrate O.O. Ikobayo, along with two responsible sureties in the same amount.
She insisted that one of the sureties have a landed property and gave Ogungbe instructions to turn in his international passport.
A postponement of the subject until June 7 was agreed upon.
