Man Accused of Killing Pregnant Wife Amid Allegations of Affair with Younger Brother
In a shocking case, a man allegedly killed his pregnant wife after suspecting her of having an affair with his younger brother. Get details on the case and its investigation.
A 30-year-old man, Motunayo Olaniyi, has been charged with the fatal stabbing of his newlywed wife, Olajumoke. The incident occurred at Amazing Grace Estate in Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The unfortunate event is said to have occurred on Friday after an intense argument between the couple. According to sources, Olaniyi allegedly attacked his 25-year-old wife, accusing her of being pregnant with his younger brother’s child.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that during the altercation, Motunayo stabbed Olajumoke multiple times. Following this, he locked her in their room and set it ablaze.
Hundeyin also revealed that the suspect caused injuries to himself following the attack.
“Officers from the Ikorodu Division responded to a distress call and extinguished the fire, discovering Olajumoke’s lifeless body with injuries to her abdomen,” according to the statement.
A team of officers who arrived at the scene put out the fire and found Olajumoke’s body. The suspect was then rescued, brought to a nearby hospital for treatment, and later detained by police.

Initial investigations showed that Olaniyi inflicted minor injuries on himself after causing the death of his wife. Olajumoke’s body has been taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and inquiries are still in progress.
A report by PUNCH indicated that a community source disclosed Olajumoke was six months pregnant when she passed away.
According to the source, “The man alleged that his wife was pregnant by his younger brother. This wasn’t the first time he had made such an accusation before fatally attacking her on Friday. His younger brother is in shock, unaware of these allegations and would have defended himself if he’d known.”
Furthermore, a police source revealed that Olaniyi had assaulted his wife earlier in the week while his mother-in-law was present. “According to the mother-in-law, she believed he was possessed by an evil spirit and took him to church for prayers. After returning home, she departed; it was then that he attacked and killed his wife under accusations of her having an affair with his brother,” added the source.
