A 39-year-old man has confessed to defiling a 7-year-old girl and put the act down to intoxication.
The man, Sadiq Ahmed, of Abuja Road in Yola Town, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, claimed on Tuesday that he had carnal knowledge of the nearby minor after consuming a local alcoholic beverage called burukutu.
On Monday, June 12, the incident took place.
The man, who was detained by the Adamawa State Police Command, described the incident at the police headquarters on Tuesday, emphasizing that he had been intoxicated when he committed the crime.
He claimed that the only illegal substance he consumed was the burukutu, an alcoholic beverage made from millet and Guinean corn (Sorghum bicolor) grains. He also expressed his sincere regret for hurting the young girl.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police public relations officer in Adamawa State, confirmed Sadiq Ahmed’s arrest and said the suspect was apprehended after the victim’s father filed a complaint.
The father reported to the police that while he and other family members were away, the suspect came to his house, gave his daughter N10, took her away, and defiled her.
