The Jigawa State Executive Council has given its approval to the disbursement of N250 million as a matching grant to purchase Ready to Use Traphyat Food (RUTF) in an effort to combat undernourished children in the state.
Speaking to reporters soon after the money were approved, State Nutrition Officer Saidu Umar revealed this.
He clarified that UNICEF has already given its approval for the N250 million funding to be used towards the purchase of RUTF.

As to his statement, “UNICEF will oversee and manage the RUTF procurement process and provide equal support for its administration and dissemination at multiple Centres for Management of Accurate Malnutrition (CMAM).”
According to him, the state’s around 10,000 acutely malnourished youngsters will receive assistance from the RUTF.
He continued by saying that in addition to RUTF, the state funds a number of initiatives aimed at improving mother and child nutrition in the region in order to combat the high prevalence of stunting and malnutrition in children.
