On Thursday, the House of Representatives Committee probing the disappearance of $2.4 billion worth of oil questioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, once again.

Malami’s inability to follow through on tips from a whistleblower was the subject of questions from the MPs.

Malami said that the whistleblower lacked adequate proof to take action.

“As far as this matter is concerned, there were no reasonable grounds or suspicions justifying the evocation of the National Assembly’s oversight function,” he stated.

Mark Gbillah, the committee’s chairman, disagreed, saying that there is more than enough evidence for the committee to take action.

Contrary to what you’ve said, the committee has documents indicating storage of specific products, documents demonstrating approval for the lifting of specific quantities of crude outside the country, and documents indicating storage of crude in specific locations in China, Gbillah said. We’ll make them available to you.

The committee ultimately decided that Malami should disclose all of the money that was made possible under the whistleblower policy.
