The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Integrity Group has been established within the party by five disgruntled governors working along with certain party veterans.
This was revealed by Governor Makinde to the media on Sunday before the group met behind closed doors.
Shortly after a northerner, Atiku Abubakar, secured the party’s presidential nomination, the G5 Governors, led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers, have been calling for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia are among the governors in the group.
According to Governor Makinde, the Integrity Group is still the driving force behind the PDP’s internal conflict.
“This morning’s meeting of the Integrity Group of our party, the PDP, will be held here.
We belonged to the G5, which is made up of the five PDP governors.
The Integrity Group is the center of the G5.
“You can see the faces of this fight in the five serving governors; the elders and leaders of the party you see here are the individuals who are behind those faces.
We are in the South West, he continued, “to assess the circumstances inside our party, to assess where we are, and to also look at what may transpire in the next elections.”
Other PDP officials, including former governors Ayo Fayose, Donald Duke, Jonah Jang, and Olusegun Mimiko, attended the gathering.
