Nicolás Maduro secures victory in the Venezuela presidential election, prompting varied responses from both supporters and critics.
The nation’s presidential election has resulted in the declaration of Nicolas Maduro as its victorious leader.
Therefore, he is poised to come back as president for the third time.
The election held on Sunday, July 28th was won by Maduro with 51 percent of the vote as reported by the country’s electoral authority.
Despite the exit polls indicating an opposition victory, the outcome revealed otherwise and contradicted those predictions. This result was unexpected as it was widely believed that most citizens were against President Maduro’s administration due to their alleged wrongdoings.
Despite being seen as the frontrunner on Sunday, opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez only managed to secure 44 percent of the vote according to the poll results.
Maduro has reacted to his contentious win by stating that it represents a success for tranquility and steadiness.
He quickly announced that he would sign a document on Monday to hold a national dialogue, possibly sensing public suspicion and potential mass dissent.
Criticism has already become prevalent among the opposition, accusing the country’s National Electoral Council of behaving like a government arm instead of an unbiased and autonomous entity.
Earlier on, the opposition voiced that voters had opted for a transformation.
Shortly before the release of results, Edmundo Gonzalez posted on X stating that “The decision cannot be concealed; a peaceful transition has been chosen by our nation.”
