On the verge of celebrating his first year in office on May 29, the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, received a vote of confidence from the Labour Party (LP) leadership in the state and all 17 local government areas.
The endorsement came after a comprehensive meeting attended by the governor, the entire party leadership in the state, all political appointees in the state executive cabinet, as well as elected members at both the national and Abia State houses of assembly.
The motion for the vote of confidence was initiated by Obi Aguocha, the representative of the Ikwuano-Umuahia federal constituency, who commended Otti for exceeding expectations and bringing pride to the party during his 11 months in office.
The meeting, held at the governor’s residence, saw further support for the motion from Munachim Alozie, the representative of Obingwa-Osisioma-Ugwunagbo federal constituency, with the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, overseeing the voting process.

Stakeholders revealed that the primary purpose of the meeting was to introduce the party hierarchy at the state and local levels to the various government appointees, including members of the state’s executive council and local government.
Governor Otti expressed surprise and gratitude at the overwhelming show of solidarity and confidence from his party leadership and other stakeholders, acknowledging the modest achievements made by his administration in less than a year.
Otti highlighted the transformation Abia State has undergone under his leadership, noting that citizens now proudly identify themselves as Abians, a stark contrast to the past when such identification was met with disdain.
