The Labour Party’s leadership faces a crisis as the NWC opposes Otti’s move for dissolution. Get the latest updates on the internal conflict.

The attempt by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti to organize a National Executive Council gathering of the Labour Party with aims of ousting the present leadership has failed.

According to OBASANJONEWS, the governor recently had a meeting with Julius, who is the national chairman of their party. During this meeting, he expressed his desire to hold a NEC gathering on August 31st.

The governor asserted that the current leadership of the party had exceeded its tenure long back.

On Tuesday, Abure convened a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), where they opposed any attempts to suggest that there exists an absence in our Party leadership by stating unequivocally “there is no vacuum.”

The National Working Committee emphasized that despite the executives’ tenure concluding in June 2024, the Party’s National Convention was convened on March 27th of that year.

On its official website, the party expressed doubt as to why Governor Otti is persistently demanding for a leadership dissolution despite being adequately represented by his Deputy at the Nnewi convention held in Anambra State.

Furthermore, the NWC should clarify that unlike other political parties which can be dominated by a singular leader or individual, the Labour Party operates on collective principles and is not susceptible to being controlled by one particular person.

The party aimed to cater to the masses, which contributed to its achievements in the 2023 election.

According to the statement, maintaining the party’s ideology, principles, ideals and outlook is crucial as it enabled individuals such as Dr Alex Otti to utilize its platform successfully in 2023 after previous unsuccessful attempts with APC, PDP and APGA.
