The Labour Party’s candidate for governor, Mr. Olumide Akpata, has received sympathy from the Edo State Government on the removal of his campaign billboards.
This was said in a statement released on Friday in Benin by Mr. Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation.
Nehikhare stated that the government forbade vandalism in any form and advised all concerned parties to handle such matters through the appropriate channels.

“We are aware of Mr. Olumide Akpata’s complaints about the removal of his campaign billboards. The Edo State Government exhorts all parties to resolve vandalism-related matters through the appropriate channels and denounces all forms of vandalism.
“Although we sympathise with Mr. Akpata’s dissatisfaction, we advise him to work with the appropriate entities in charge of signage management to resolve any unresolved issues or costs.
“Violent or disobedient threats have no place in our democratic process, and all participants should act honourably and legally. Rather than using strategies that could fuel discord or division, it is crucial that we concentrate on productive discourse and nonviolent engagement, according to Nehikhare.
He said that regardless of a person’s status or affiliation, the government was still dedicated to enforcing the law and would deal with any disruptive activity.
The commissioner beseeched Akpata to put unity and stability first by resolving the internal issues within his party.
He exhorted everyone to work towards fostering an inclusive and tranquil voting process for the good of all citizens.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Akpata had earlier charged the Edo State Government with being in charge of the vandalised campaign billboards during a news conference.
