Uchenna Onyeizu, the Labour Party’s nominee for the Abia South Senate seat, has finally filed his appeal at the Court of Appeal in Owerri, asking to be proclaimed the election’s victor.
Senator Abaribe of the All Progressives Congress, APGA, was defeated in the election, according to the LP candidate Onyeizu, who claimed this in a petition filed on July 13 at the Owerri Division of the Appellate Court.
He also disapproved with Panel 1’s earlier ruling, which dismissed his petition on technical grounds rather than considering the substance of his claim. Panel 1 is the electoral petitions tribunal for the National Assembly, which has its Umuahia office.
He pleaded with his supporters to remain patient and wait for the conclusion of his Appeal Court case, saying, “The decision of the Panel is totally unacceptable to me because I am so convinced that I defeated Senator Abaribe.”
Obasanjonews24 cites Onyeizu as having stirred up controversy during a meeting of the Panel by asserting that he lacked trust in it and that it had already been compromised.
