The All Progressives Congress (APC) group led by Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State would join forces with former governor Ibikunle Amosun’s supporters.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, this comes after almost five years of political squabbling between Abiodun and Amosun, a close friend of his.
Reliable sources told OBASANJO NEWS24 that the Amosun supporters are now meeting with the governor at the Presidential Lodge in the Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.
They were reportedly ushered into the meeting by Derin Adebiyi, a former Ogun State APC chairman whose term was terminated in 2019 for suspected anti-party activities by the short-lived Adams Oshiomhole-led APC National Working Committee.
OBASANJO NEWS24 has also learned that the politicians, who defected from the APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the 2023 governorship race, have Amosun’s approval to create an alliance with Abiodun to enable their return to the party.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Amosun declined to endorse Abiodun during the election and instead funded Tunji Otegbeye to challenge the incumbent on the ADC platform.
With only 94,000 votes, Otegbeye finished in a distant third place in the race, stoking rumours that Amosun may have deployed Otegbeye as a spoiler to prevent Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who finished second, from winning.
