Loss of three lives reported as suspected armed robbers attack and rob two banks in Ekiti
Three individuals were killed when armed robbers broke into two commercial banks in Ikere-Ekiti, the administrative centre of the Ikere local government area in Ekiti state.
About 5:15 p.m., a group of twenty fearless robbers with guns stormed the town and simultaneously targeted both commercial banks.
According to reports, the robbers shot a few agents during their initial attack on the Amotekun Corps’ Ikere headquarters on Ise Road before moving on to the banks.
According to a source, the armed robbers killed three people during “the well cordinated attacks,” which lasted for roughly forty-five minutes, and injured numerous others to varied degrees.
The source claims that the armed bandits burst through the security door of Wema Bank in Odo Oja and Access Bank in Okeosun using dynamite before making their way into the banking hall.
The insider revealed that the dynamite detonated multiple cars parked close to the banks in addition to the front doors.
He further mentioned that two gangs of armed thieves took off an unknown large sum of money.
The Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Alagbado, confirmed the occurrence over the phone with our reporter. He expressed amazement at the robbery incidence and called it terrible.
He expressed regret that the armed bandits managed to carry out their operations for a few minutes without any interference and managed to flee the town even with military checkpoints and the Police Area Command there.
Oba Alagbado declared that he has spoken with the security personnel about the issue and that the perpetrators of the dastard act ought to be taken into custody and put on trial.
“It’s a regrettable incident that we did not anticipate happening,” he stated. Two commercial banks were targeted by the attacks. After speaking with the Area Commander, DPO, and DSS, they all confirmed that the soldiers surrounding the axis have been informed.
