With Africa participating in the Grand Procession of the Lord Mayor’s Show for the first time in 805 years, it was a momentous occasion marked by a stunning display of cultural splendour and global fellowship through the streets of London. A stunning parade was held to honour the glorious event of Michael Mainelli’s induction as the new Lord Mayor.

Several non-UK nations, including China, Italy, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Nigeria, represented by Lagos State, were invited to participate in the parade as part of a calculated effort to promote international exchange. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, the Chairman of EnterpriseNGR and Coronation Group Limited, co-chaired the combined delegation from the state and EnterpriseNGR, which was led by Babajide Sanwo Olu, the Governor of Lagos State.

Powerhouse in investment management in Africa, Coronation Group, proudly assumed centre stage as lead sponsors, demonstrating its dedication to assisting with initiatives that promote cross-cultural understanding and international cooperation.

Aigbovbioise Aig-Imoukhuede, the President of the Fund Managers Association of Nigeria (FMAN) and the Managing Director of Coronation Asset Management, participated in the procession. “We are honoured to be woven into a rich tapestry of cultures that reflect centuries of collective effort to develop commerce, communities, and charities,” he said. Our dynamic Nigerian culture, which radiates intellectual depth, passion, ambition, and the power of enterprise, is proudly displayed through our partnership with Lagos State and EnterpriseNGR.

Two miles long, the Grand march took place in two parts: an outward march to the Royal Courts of Justice, followed by a brief interval, then a return procession to Mansion House. Over 2,000 livery companies, the beating heart of the City of London, participated in this year’s parade, representing the importance of the financial sector and the dignity of work via their various trades, crafts, and professions.

The Lagos crew turned heads on the streets of London with their trademark Eyo masquerades, alluring afrobeats music and a parade float that showcased Lagos’ incredible achievements in the transport industry, influencing the present and paving the way for the future. An homage to these achievements, the parade float was a combination of the Lagos Blue Line, ‘Danfo’ buses, ‘Kekes’ and famous locations like the Lekki bridge.

Following the procession, the Visiting Cities’ Banquet—an incredible continuation of the celebrations—was held by the City of Zurich, Switzerland. With a livery style supper influenced by Switzerland, participating towns, including Lagos, gathered to celebrate their strategic importance to the City of London and to build friendships. The toasts and rituals throughout the evening confirmed long-lasting ties in the spirit of diplomacy, trade, and friendship.

Building international ties is crucial for success, as Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli underlined during the Banquet, reinforcing the event’s global focus. “Our dedication to creating enduring relationships across boundaries is demonstrated by The Lord Mayor’s Show. As a team, we set out on a path of mutual achievement, valuing diversity and creating a future where cooperation has no boundaries, said the Lord Mayor.

A high-profile banquet with notable UK VVIP visitors, such as the Prime Minister and the Archbishop of Canterbury, will be attended by the Governor of Lagos State and Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede on Monday. Lagos State and EnterpriseNGR will also entertain stakeholders from Nigeria and the diaspora at the InvestLagos dinner, promoting business prospects and developing bilateral contacts with the theme “Lagos is Open for Business.”

A magnificent chapter in London’s history is marked by the Lord Mayor’s Show Parade and Visiting Cities’ Banquet, which honour variety, trade, and the spirit of international cooperation. Coronation Group Limited is happy to be leading the charge in promoting platforms that establish Nigeria as Africa’s top financial market, even as the city continues to welcome cultures from all over the world.
