He highlighted the frequent incidents of stampedes and struggles for food as clear indicators of the severe hunger and starvation prevailing in the nation.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, emphasized that the situation has reached a critical point where people are losing their lives to hunger even before the projected timeline.
He further emphasized that the physical hunt and desperate struggle for scarce food have become life-threatening adventures in themselves.
This statement from Obi came in response to a recent stampede at Nasarawa State University, where two students tragically lost their lives while scrambling for government-provided food.
Additionally, four more individuals reportedly lost their lives in another stampede during an almsgiving zakat exercise for the poor in Bauchi State.
Obi took to his social media handle to express his dismay, stating that these incidents demonstrate the level of desperation among the people.
He pointed out that with skyrocketing food prices and the nation’s ongoing struggle with unproductivity, many Nigerians now live in constant uncertainty, unsure of where their next meal will come from.
The dire circumstances surrounding the availability of food have led to a disturbing trend of risking lives in the pursuit of basic sustenance.
