Leverkusen sees return of Boniface in German Cup

Victor Boniface, the Nigerian International striker, is set to make his return to the field after a three-month absence due to injury for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Coach Xabi Alonso confirmed this news ahead of the crucial cup game, expressing his satisfaction with the team’s current situation.

Boniface had to sit out the last Africa Cup of Nations due to his injury, missing the tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire. The 23-year-old underwent surgery for an adductor muscle injury in January and has been undergoing rehabilitation ever since, eagerly waiting for his return to action.

Coach Alonso mentioned in a press conference that the team is in excellent shape with no injuries and a full squad available for selection. He specifically highlighted Boniface’s return to the squad, indicating that the player is ready to contribute to the team’s success.

Leverkusen, currently leading the Bundesliga, is aiming for multiple trophies this season. When asked about Boniface’s potential playing time in the upcoming game, Alonso mentioned that the striker might not be able to play the full 90 minutes but could feature for around 30 minutes.

Despite this, he praised Boniface’s recovery and strong mentality, emphasizing the player’s eagerness to return to the pitch and make an impact.

Before his injury, Boniface had been in impressive form, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in the Bundesliga.

His return to the squad is a significant boost for Leverkusen as they continue their pursuit of success in multiple competitions this season.
