Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has given an explanation for Erling Haaland’s celebration of Chelsea icon Didier Drogba’s goal.

Remember when on Tuesday night, Haaland imitated Drogba’s famous victory celebration from Man City’s Champions League victory over Young Boys?

The Norway international scored twice to help Man City qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

One of his celebrations, though, truly drew attention.

Lescott claims, however, that Haaland imitated Drogba’s celebration against Young Boys because the Ivorian star requested him to do so in Paris so that the next time he scores for Man City, he can celebrate like he did then.

Recall that Drogba recently hosted a portion of the Ballon d’Or event, whereby Haaland was named the world’s second-best men’s player, behind Lionel Messi.

Lescott gave TNT Sports an explanation of Haaland’s replica goal celebration, saying, “Drogba and Gary Lineker asked him about his loyalties and could he dedicate a celebration the next time he scored at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.”

“He dedicated that to Didier there, and that is a special moment for him.”

One of the greatest attackers to have ever played in the Premier League is thought to be Drogba.

He spent his two stints at Chelsea scoring 164 goals throughout all competitions.

His most well-known celebration involved running in the direction of the corner flag and raising both hands in the air.
