His resignation was justified by the election of Abdullahi Ganduje and Ajibola Basiru as the chairman and secretary of the APC, respectively.
Ahmed El-Marzuq, the National Legal Adviser for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from the organization’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser, AbdulHalim Adamu, El-Marzuq blamed the election of Abdullahi Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, and Ajibola Basiru, a former spokesman for the Senate, as the APC National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, for his departure.
According to the statement, which was in part, “In light of the recent developments within our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the emergence of His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru as National Chairman and National Secretary and the reconfiguration of party offices for national cohesion and adequate regional representation, the National Legal Adviser found it pertinent that he resigns his position within the party to allow for a smooth transition
El-Marzuq expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders for giving him the “opportunity” to serve.
On Thursday at the APC’s 12th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Ganduje and Basiru were elected to the party’s NWC.
An internal crisis has been plaguing the APC for several weeks. Two party NWC members resigned in the middle of July. The party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, both resigned.
