The office of the Israeli leader said on Monday that Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the head of the Sudanese military, congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu on his election victory and expressed optimism for improved cooperation.
Netanyahu, leader of the Likud party, is anticipated to build a far-right coalition in the upcoming weeks and take over as prime minister of Israel.
According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, Sudanese army leader Burhan, whose October 2021 coup delayed a transition to civilian administration, wrote to Israel’s prime minister-designate that he looked forward to “continuing our work to enhance ties in all sectors”.
Khartoum has not issued any public statements.
When Netanyahu was Israel’s prime minister in 2020, Donald Trump, then-president of the United States, mediated a series of agreements in which Sudan was one of four Arab nations that controversially agreed to normalize relations with Israel.
The judgments are seen by Palestinians as a heinous betrayal of their national cause.
But unlike the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco, crisis-ridden Sudan has not carried through its agreement to forge relations with Israel.
Yair Lapid, the current Israeli prime minister, asked Burhan whether he would travel to Israel as the head of Sudan in September.
“Reconciliation is the cornerstone of relationships.
As a result, if I were invited and had the resources to do so, I would attend “To The Associated Press, he remarked.
According to the office of the Israeli leader, Netanyahu also got congratulations from Bahrain’s Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa during a conversation on Sunday.
The office was reported by The Times of Israel as stating, “The crown prince reiterated Bahrain’s intention to develop and strengthen relations between our countries and raise our partnership to new heights.”
Al Khalifa was reportedly asked to visit Israel Netanyahu.
Al Khalifa “expressed warmest wishes to HE [His Excellency] Netanyahu following his invitation to establish the new Government of Israel,” according to the official Bahrain News Agency.
In a phone conversation with Netanyahu, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan “congratulated Netanyahu on his coalition’s win in the most recent Knesset elections,” according to the official WAM news agency on Thursday.
To further peace, collaboration, and constructive partnerships in the region for the benefit of all of its peoples, Al Nahyan “emphasized [the] keenness of the UAE,” WAM continued.
Netanyahu tweeted on Thursday that the UAE’s ruler had asked him to go there to strengthen ties.
According to a separate statement released by Netanyahu’s office on Monday, Jordan’s King Abdullah II also called the Israeli leader to offer his congratulations.
During some of Netanyahu’s 15 years in office, relations between the two presidents were tense.
Jordan was the second Arab nation to establish diplomatic ties with Israel in 1994, and Israeli security officials view their relationship with Amman as being of utmost importance.
Before his resounding victory in Israel’s 1 November election, right-wing leader Benjamin Netanyahu spent 14 months in opposition.
