Ibrahim Lamorde, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has passed away at the age of 61 while receiving medical treatment in Egypt. The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed his sudden and shocking death in a statement.
Lamorde was known for his active and dedicated role in fighting against corruption.
He served as the EFCC chairman from 2012 to 2015, appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan. Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa state, Lamorde graduated from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1984.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986 and became the pioneer director of operations when the EFCC was established in 2003. Lamorde’s contributions to the nation and the EFCC will be greatly missed, and the Commission extends its prayers for his soul’s repose and comfort for his family and the entire nation.
