Sule Lamido claims that Buhari was against Tinubu becoming President and had doubts about Osinbajo’s loyalty during their time in office.
Sule Lamido, the ex-governor of Jigawa State, has claimed that President Buhari had no intention of endorsing President Bola Tinubu as his successor.
According to Lamido, Buhari lacked confidence in his former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a possible successor. Instead, the ex-President had hoped for Ahmed Lawan – who is also a former Senate President.
According to Lamido, Tinubu earned his presidency through sheer audacity and self-reliance without owing anyone.
Lamido told Tribune that Tinubu had bragged about his intention to rule Nigeria while in Abeokuta, Ogun State before the convention. Buhari was present but oblivious to this fact. Lamido revealed that despite this revelation, there was someone else besides Tinubu whom Buhari preferred for the role of leadership.

Even Professor (Yemi) Osinbajo, his own vice president, was not trusted by him. He had a desire for Ahmed Lawan but the logic behind this decision was implausible. It’s unreasonable to have someone from the North serve another eight years after already having an individual serving in that position for eight years! This may be possible at some point in time but presently there are inherent dynamics which cannot be modified- especially with Nigeria as it stands today.
After occupying the presidential office for eight years, the Nigerian leader failed to uphold his favored nominee with audacity. Despite being present at the convention which nurtured Tinubu’s emergence – a candidate he never supported or believed in – Buhari appears impotent and powerless. Consequently, according to speculations from many quarters; since Tinubu won fair and square without any affirmative input from Buhari, it is right to say that there are no obligations/liabilities between them whatsoever!
Before the presidential election in 2015, there were suggestions that Buhari opposed Tinubu’s nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
In an effort to prevent Nigerians from voting for Tinubu, certain high-ranking officials within Buhari’s administration orchestrated a fuel shortage and proposed changes to the design of the nation’s currency.
Tinubu expressed his displeasure with the action by declaring “Emi Lokan” during one of his campaigns, indicating that it was now his turn.
