Lalong likely to resign from Tinubu’s cabinet, preparing to transition to Senate
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong, will resign from his ministry to take a Senate seat, barring a last-minute change.
According to Obasanjo News24, Lalong was declared the victor of the Plateau South Senatorial election, which took place on February 25, 2023, after the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the ruling of the tribunal that had recently dismissed elected members of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, in Plateau State on November 7.

After the appellate court’s ruling, the Minister got his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, two weeks ago.
Vanguard was informed by sources close to the Minister—who was the immediate past governor of Plateau State and the Director-General of the Tinubu Presidential Council—that he would shortly step down in order to address the Senate.
The source claims that “the Minister will very soon join the Senate.” To make sure President Bola Tinubu succeeds, he will travel there. He wants to go with the seniors, who are in the Senate.
As soon as His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, steps down, Mr. President will select a fresh, younger person to lead Plateau State as the Minister.
“You are aware of the Minister’s involvement in the campaigns; he is prepared to help ensure the success of the government and has faith in Asiwaju.”
