A meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, according to a directive from Minister of Labour and Employment Simon Bako Lalong to the Department of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations.
According to OBASANJONEWS24, only the TUC showed up for the meeting after the minister called the two labour organisations to discuss ways to avoid the two-day strike that took place on September 5 and 6.
To prevent additional economic disruption, Olajide Oshundun, the ministry’s director of press and public relations, said in a statement on Sunday that it was crucial for the unions to communicate with the government and work to resolve all outstanding issues.
The minister asserts that in order to ensure industrial harmony, which is crucial to achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda, the administration of President Bola Tinubu will always engage organised labour and address its concerns after due engagement and negotiations.
