LaLiga: Barcelona is being investigated for possible referee bribing

Published

on

Barcelona has been accused of engaging in bribery for payments of more than €7 million paid to businesses connected to José Mara Enrquez Negreira, a former vice president of the referees committee.

Legal sources confirmed this to the Spanish news agency EFE.

The same accusations also apply to Negreira and his son, Javier Enriquez Romero, as well as former Barça presidents Josep Mara Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell.

Prior to this, Barça was accused of misleading administration, falsifying company records, and engaging in dishonest business practises.

On Thursday, police combed into the referees’ office at the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in Madrid to find records related to the case.

Prosecutors filed a lawsuit in March against Barça, their former leaders, and the Negreira.

The investigation that has been continuing since the payments were initially made public in February may now go more quickly as a result of these bribery charges.
