Lagos State Govt Introduces 25% Fare Discount for Off-Peak Travel

The Lagos State Government has announced a 25% discount on fares for off-peak travel, aiming to ease transportation costs and encourage commuters to travel during less busy hours.

Starting on Monday, August 12th, 2024, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will escalate its daily trips from fifty-four to seventy-two.

Nonetheless, the present timetable for Sunday activities stayed unaltered.

Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), has revealed that riders on the Blue Line train can now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in just 18 minutes instead of the previous duration of 25 minutes.

She implies that there will be a train arriving every 18 minutes in both directions, which enables commuters to schedule their journeys.

According to Akinajo, there is a reinstated 25 percent deduction for commuters traveling during the non-rush hours designated from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm each day.

According to the managing director of LAMATA, the newly implemented train schedule has the potential to decrease travel times, prompt higher usage of trains during non-peak hours and cut down on transportation costs. The updated timetables can be accessed via LAMATA’s website, stations or social media accounts.

It should be noted that the Blue Rail Line began offering passenger services on September 4th, 2023. Since then, it has transported nearly two million passengers.
