Lagos Red Line rail begins partial operations today, marking a new chapter in mass transit. Learn more about the routes and service details.

As of Wednesday, August 28th in the year 2024, partial operations have begun for the Lagos Mass Transit Red Line Rail.

On Tuesday, Kolawole Ojelabi, who serves as the spokesperson for LAMATA (Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority), announced this information in a statement.

Initially, the Red Line will operate four daily trips without charging passengers from Oyingbo to Agbado.

The partial operation is a component of the Lagos State Government’s comprehensive plan to establish a contemporary, effective, and environmentally-friendly mode of transportation.

Lagos’ Strategic Transport Master Plan includes six rail lines and one monorail, as stated by LAMATA, with the Red Line being among them.

The project’s importance lies in its connection of Lagos and Ogun State, resulting in numerous advantages for workers and entrepreneurs who regularly travel between the two states.

According to Ojelabi, the significant achievement represents the outcome of thorough preparations including training of personnel and implementation of security measures.

In order to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the system, a trial run lasting six weeks was conducted without any passengers.

In the current stage, we are engaging with structured collectives of passengers who do not pay fees to obtain feedback prior to commencing commercial operations.

The test phase of the Blue Line, which is another rail project under LAMATA, follows a similar approach.

Spanning 27 kilometers from Agbado to Oyingbo, the first phase of The Red Line presents a dependable and economical mode of transportation poised to mitigate traffic jams while enhancing Lagos residents’ standard of living.
