The Akere Motor Spare Parts Market in the state’s Apapa region is the subject of an investigation by the Lagos State Police Command investigating possible arson.
A 65-year-old security guard died in the incident, according to a statement from Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesman, even though the fire was put out at 3 am.
The loss of several million naira has been regretted by market vendors in the interim. According to reports, some gunmen entered the market at 2:30 in the morning and set it on fire, killing a man who was a security guard.
Similar to this, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service claimed earlier on Wednesday that the deceased male adult had “gunshot wounds,” stoking suspicions that the fire was a planned attack on the market.
Hundeyin claimed that Idowu Owohunwa, the state’s commissioner of police, asked Lagos residents to maintain their composure and that the State Criminal Investigation Department has been instructed to take over the inquiry in order to determine the precise facts surrounding the incident.
He also urged caution in attempting to add any unnecessary context to the incident while reiterating his commitment to making the findings of the investigation public.
