Lagos Man Murders Newlywed Wife, Sets Room Ablaze

A Lagos man fatally attacks his newlywed wife and sets their room on fire in a tragic case of domestic violence. Read the full story here.

A tragic event took place at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe in Ikorodu, Lagos State. It involved 30-year-old Motunayo Olaniyi who allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death after a heated argument.

The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, reported on Saturday that the incident occurred on Friday.

Olaniyi reportedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife multiple times during a dispute, locked her in their room, and set it ablaze. Afterwards, he allegedly inflicted wounds on himself.

A team of police officers arrived at the scene and reportedly extinguished the fire. Afterwards, they discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with wounds to her abdomen.

The statement partially read: “On October 4, a distress call was received from the Ikorodu Division regarding a newlywed couple. Motunrayo Olaniyi, aged 30, and his wife Olajumoke, aged 25, were allegedly involved in a domestic altercation in their room at Amazing Grace Estate in Elepe, Ikorodu.”

During the incident, the husband allegedly fatally stabbed his wife, locked her in a room, and set it on fire while inflicting injuries upon himself.

Officers from the Ikorodu Division reacted to an emergency call and extinguished the blaze. They discovered Olajumoke’s body, which had wounds in the abdominal area.

The police spokesperson added that Olaniyi was rescued and quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. After being discharged, he was taken into police custody.

He stated that an initial investigation later uncovered that the suspect had stabbed his wife during the altercation and inflicted minor wounds on himself.

“The body has been taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing,” he stated in conclusion.
