A tragic fire at a hotel in Lagos has claimed the lives of four staff members, with authorities investigating the cause of the deadly blaze.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police, has confirmed that a fire at a hotel resulted in the tragic death of four staff members.
Hundeyin reported that a distress call was received at approximately 7:50 AM on Sunday, indicating that the fire had begun around 7:45 AM, engulfing the hotel’s lounge and bar.
After receiving the call, a team of police officers and firefighters was promptly sent to the scene.
Despite their efforts, the fire that swept through the entire building claimed the lives of all four staff members before it could be contained.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, and they are urging business owners to comply with safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.
He stated, “The investigation showed that four unidentified company employees suffered fatal burns in the fire. Their remains were taken to the morgue at Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Yaba.”
In a similar incident, two of the three victims affected by a collapsed fence succumbed to their injuries.
Hundeyin stated that the event took place on Saturday in Lagos’s Ejigbo area.
He stated that they received a distress call at around 10:30 am reporting the collapse of a school fence on Apano Street, off Nurudeen Street in Ejigbo. The incident affected three individuals identified as Amaka, aged 30, Etim, aged 38, and Emmanuel, aged 12.
He mentioned that all the victims were walking home during Saturday’s heavy downpour when the fence collapsed on them.
“The victims suffered severe injuries and were taken to Isolo General Hospital while unconscious. Doctors confirmed that Etim and Emmanuel had died, whereas Amaka is currently undergoing treatment,” he stated.
