The Labour Party (LP) has been given permission by a federal high court in Lagos to request a mandamus order compelling the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to electronically submit results during the state’s March 11 gubernatorial and house of assembly elections.
Peter Lifu, the presiding judge, gave the order on Friday.
The judge also granted a mandamus order requiring INEC to employ unbiased, competent, and dependable logistic businesses that are not political in order to carry out Section 27(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 in the distribution of election materials.
Upon deciding a motion ex-parte with the file number FHC/L/CS/370/2023, Lifu issued the orders.
The Labour Party, along with its candidate for governor of Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and 37 other individuals, filed the motion.
Abass Ibrahim, the petitioners’ solicitor, had represented them at their court appearance.
The hearing date for the main issue is set for March 7.
