The Lagos State Government has announced its plans to carry out an enforcement action to clear out more than 100 shanties located at Adeniji Adele under bridge starting from Monday.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this announcement on Sunday, stating that the removal follows the expiration of a 48-hour notice given to the occupants to vacate the premises along with their belongings.
He emphasized the importance of the occupants voluntarily relocating before the enforcement operations begin on Monday, highlighting the involvement of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI/LAGESC) and officials from the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) department for security support during the operation.
This initiative is part of the current administration’s commitment to reclaiming ungoverned spaces in Lagos, particularly targeting unsightly shanties that do not align with the vision of a smart city.
The presence of these shanties not only poses unsanitary conditions for residents but also serves as a haven for criminal activities and drug trafficking, which is detrimental to the safety and well-being of law-abiding citizens.
Therefore, the Commissioner strongly advises all shanty occupants to heed the notice and evacuate voluntarily before the enforcement actions commence on Monday, underscoring the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment for all residents.
