The Lagos State government appeals to youths to join the military, emphasizing the need for more recruits to strengthen national defense and contribute to Nigeria’s security efforts.

The Lagos State Government has encouraged the youth to consider joining the military.

On Wednesday, during the quarterly meetings with the Chairman and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government, made an appeal.

Salu-Hundeyin stated that national security is a shared responsibility and serving in the military constitutes service to both the state and the entire nation.

She found it disheartening that indigenous youths from the state were not enrolling in the military, as observed during the last recruitment.

She mentioned that the Federal Government has announced that military recruitment should be conducted equally, with each state allocated 150 slots.

We found that Lagos State has been significantly underrepresented in the Nigerian military. There are very few people from there serving. We see this as an opportunity to change things and ensure that locals aren’t overlooked again.

The military focuses on a nation’s security, which should be the concern of all its citizens.

“It should not be limited to a specific group. However, since it’s impractical for everyone to wear a uniform, the government has wisely decided that those interested in this job must apply.”

She expressed concern that, in Lagos State, children are reluctant to join the military because they don’t see a reason to be part of it. She noted that when a state does not participate in this way, it is depriving itself of certain benefits.
