Owners and inhabitants of residential buildings that have been unlawfully turned into clubs, mosques, churches, lounges, and bars without official government authority have been given a 30-day warning to vacate their properties.

The impacted parties were advised to return the building to its rightful usage as soon as possible before the deadline passed, according to a statement released on Tokunbo Wahab’s official X handle on Wednesday. Wahab is the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources.
The Commissioner claimed that the notice was a response to the master plan’s distortion of the state’s predominantly residential zones.
He bemoaned the fact that some residents converted residential areas into clubhouses and places of worship while ignoring the legal regulations.
He claimed that the construction was an annoyance in the country’s commercial centre.
“After residents voiced concerns about their safety and security and the club owners were repeatedly complained to about non-compliance with safety and security protocols, the removal notice became necessary.
“Any building owner in a residential area that has converted their building to a church, mosque, club, bar or lounge without the necessary approvals should evict the occupants before the 30-day final notice expires. The state will not provide further notice of sealing; instead, such non-conforming buildings will be removed outright at the owners’ expense,” the statement continued.
