Lagos government plans to provide subsidized drugs for its residents

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Thursday that his administration will improve the citizens’ quality of life by subsidising medications for health palliative care.

He said that the health palliatives that his administration will soon implement will mitigate the impact of rising drug costs brought on by the nation’s economic difficulties.

At this year’s Community Day celebration, which was held at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, with the subject “Community Engagement, a veritable tool for infrastructural development in rural communities,” Governor Sanwo-Olu made the commitment on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu stated that his government is aware of the nation’s rising pharmaceutical drug costs and that, in order to mitigate the impact, the State Government will provide subsidies to citizens for medical products, just as it has done in the areas of food distribution and transportation.

“We will continue to provide amenities for all of you in the rural areas; we are not going to leave you in various communities,” he declared. We intend to explore every crevice and corner of the state.

We are here today to express our gratitude and appreciation for your efforts in building the grassroots. We have reduced the travel fare, as you are aware. We have supplied food palliatives. We have more planned. But pharmaceutical prices are also going up. We will also provide palliative care through medication since we are a responsible and responsive government.

The governor expressed gratitude to the state’s numerous Community Development Associations (CDAs) for their assistance in the previous general elections, which resulted in the reelection of both him and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

In order to ensure the prompt execution of community-based programmes, the governor, who pledged additional grassroots projects, announced the establishment of the Office of Rural Development and the appointment of a Special Adviser, a member of the cabinet.

According to him, the Office of Rural Development is committed to hearing grievances and meeting the requirements of Lagos citizens, especially those who live in the suburbs and rural parts of the state.

The topic of the event resonates with the state’s developmental strategy, according to Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor of Rural Development.

He expressed gratitude to each and every CDA in the state for their assistance with self-help initiatives, which he claimed enhanced state government efforts to bring about the benefits of democracy.

Agbaje also expressed gratitude to the recently appointed CDAs led by Azeez Amusat for their unselfish efforts in arranging citizen-government cooperation.

Along with praising the winning CDAs for their community-development self-help initiatives, he issued a challenge to other CDAs to assist the government in building infrastructure.
