Lagos government issued warning to nightclubs, churches, and mosques on noise pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has issued noise pollution warnings to churches, mosques, nightclubs, pubs, and event venues.

Churches, mosques, and nightclubs were advised in a statement on LASEPA’s X account to abide by the recommended sound levels in order to minimise noise pollution.

It made the argument that communities’ peace and wellbeing are seriously threatened by excessive noise.

As a courtesy to our neighbourhoods, make sure that sound levels are kept within reasonable bounds.

Together, we can enjoy our areas without overly disturbing others and promote a calmer environment.

The agency used Section 199 Sub-sections k, l, and m of the Lagos State statute, particularly in connection to noise pollution, in order to bolster its warning and to draw the attention of the impacted groups to it.

The agency shall have the power to make regulations on (k) Noise standard for any product or class which emits noise capable of negatively affecting the public health or welfare; (l) Noise standard for any product or class, which is sold entirely or in part on the basis of its effectiveness in reducing noise; and (m) The agency shall have the power to make regulations on noise pollution standards in any residential, religious, commercial, industrial, or
