Idra Bassey, a doctor allegedly involved in the death of Abiola, a 36-year-old woman who lost her life while undergoing buttock enhancement surgery at an institute located in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State is being sought for by The Lagos State Police Command.
The occurrence was verified on Thursday by Benjamin Hundeyin, who speaks for the Lagos State Police Command.
Reports indicate that Abiola underwent a procedure referred to as Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) at the clinic on Monday.
Despite medical professionals’ warnings of potential risks, the surgery that involves transferring fat from other parts of the body to enhance buttocks size and shape has experienced rising popularity in Lagos.

Sadly, Abiola lost consciousness while undergoing a procedure as a result of receiving an injection from the nurse who had been instructed by Dr. Bassey. According to her driver, who accompanied her to the clinic, she started experiencing breathing difficulties immediately after getting injected and gasped for air thereafter; he reported this to law enforcement officials.
Although the nurse involved has been apprehended, Dr. Bassey remains at large and is currently being sought in connection with the ongoing investigation as a suspect. Hundeyin confirmed that he is officially wanted by authorities.
In 2019, Melissa Kerr, a British woman who was 31 years old at the time, died during buttock enhancement surgery in an Istanbul private hospital. This case has been compared to another incident due to similarities between them. In 2023, it was reported by the BBC that Kerr had not received sufficient information about risks associated with the procedure before leaving for her surgery.
