Lagos closes the event space after a reveller is electrocuted

On Monday, a thrill-seeker was electrocuted at the event site, prompting the Lagos State Government to close the Wonderland Lagos Kiddies area.

Lanre Mojola, the director general of the Lagos State Safety Commission, stated in a statement that the intervention has become crucial to avoid the continued exposure of visitors, especially children, at the location and to avoid mishaps that could result in fatalities and serious injuries.

Mojola also revealed that despite numerous meetings held at the start of the project after an initial safety inspection exercise was carried out on the venue to discuss safety violations found there, the owner of the event venue, Ezekiel Adamu, had refused to implement the Commission’s recommended safety measures.

However, it has become urgent and necessary to close the facility until all violations are remedied in order to protect users, particularly children, from further harm and to guarantee that subsequent events scheduled are secure for Lagos residents.

“No person or organisation is bigger than the state,” the statement said, adding that the Commission would always assure Lagosians’ safety as they celebrated the holiday season.

He also issued a warning to venues in Lagos that do not follow the state safety regulations for events and asked locals to socialise appropriately.
