Rasheed Bamishe, the LP chairman in Lagos State, made this call at the party’s secretariat in Lagos on Saturday.
He appealed to the National Working Committee, members of the party Board of Trustees, and other relevant stakeholders to prevent Abure from organizing the proposed National Convention on March 27, 2024.
Bamishe emphasized the need for Abure to prioritize the party’s interests and suggested the appointment of a Caretaker National Chairman to oversee the State Congresses before convening the National Convention.
He expressed concern that Abure’s alleged involvement in corrupt cases has tarnished the image of the Labour Party, which was established to be a beacon of hope for Nigerians.
Bamishe also highlighted the importance of a democratic organization like the Labour Party not being controlled by a single individual.
He stated that the allegations of dishonesty, forgery, and fabrication of signatures have brought shame and embarrassment to the party.
Bamishe urged Abure to step aside to allow for a thorough investigation into the fraud allegations against him.
He criticized Abure for clinging to power despite the public knowledge of these cases and called on him to disclose the location of the National Convention where he was elected as National Chairman.
Bamishe accused Abure of planning to reinstall himself as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
