The payment of compensation to property owners affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project has been temporarily suspended by the Federal Government.
This is due to alterations made to the project plan, specifically in certain sections such as the white sand beach area.
Minister of Works Sen. Dave Umahi explained that the route has been revised, resulting in a narrower corridor of 55 kilometers with 10 train tracks. Previously, the government had disbursed approximately N10 billion in compensations, but payments are currently on hold from Kilometer Seven.
Umahi assured that compensation payments would resume after a thorough review, which includes hiring new enumerators to provide updated assessments.
The minister emphasized the importance of these adjustments in order to avoid destroying existing infrastructure and to balance the infrastructure needs with the concerns of affected communities.
