According to the police authorities in Lagos State, the restriction of vehicular movement due to a by-election is limited to the Surulere area of the state where the exercise for a federal constituency seat is taking place.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had imposed restrictions on movements in areas across 26 states where by-elections and run-off polls are scheduled to be held on Saturday.
However, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the restriction only applies to the Surulere area and not all parts of the city as speculated.
He emphasized that there is no restriction of movement in other parts of the state.
The Surulere Federal Constituency 1 position became vacant after Femi Gbajabiamila, who won the post in the 2023 elections, was appointed as the chief of staff by President Bola Tinubu. Apart from Surulere, elections will also be held in various parts of the country, including three senatorial districts, seven federal constituencies, and 28 state constituencies in 80 local government areas nationwide.
