The Lagos State House of Assembly has ramped up security measures as it prepares to hold a crucial plenary session on Monday amid rising political tensions.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has mandated that its officials display valid identification cards to enter the premises, indicating an effort to enhance security at the complex.

This occurs in the context of continued controversies following Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s impeachment.

It was reported that while the area is relatively calm at the moment, plenary sessions resume today.

A notice to staff from Omotayo Adekemi, representing the acting clerk of the House, Taiwo Ottun, indicated that all staff members and legislative aides are required to show valid identity cards in order to enter the House premises.

Ottun emphasized that individuals lacking a valid identity card would not be allowed entry. Additionally, he mentioned that the Lagos State Police Command has pledged to uphold order throughout the state regardless of events at the Assembly.

The new directive was issued two days after Obasa ended his silence, asserting that he would continue to serve as the speaker until due process was observed.

recalls that Obasa was ousted by the majority of House members on January 13, 2025, after facing allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. Mojisola Meranda, the Deputy Speaker at the time, subsequently replaced him.
