The lingering crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly is approaching resolution, as Hon. Meranda is set to resign. What does this mean for the state’s political landscape? Find out more.

The leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly seems to be approaching its resolution, with Speaker Mojisola Meranda preparing to resign from her role.

Her resignation is anticipated to clear the path for the return of impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. However, sources suggest that Obasa might step down in a few days as well, paving the way for a new Speaker to emerge.

This development comes after a high-level meeting conducted on Sunday night at Lagos House, Marina.

Members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and lawmakers attended the meeting, indicating a united effort to bring stability back to the Assembly.

It was learned that the decision reached at the meeting might be implemented today, Monday, when the House of Assembly is expected to resume for a plenary.

The House, under Meranda’s leadership, scheduled a plenary for 1 p.m., and sources suggest that the resignation could potentially be announced during this session.

“In spite of the tense atmosphere, it was an open session where everyone could express their thoughts. Ultimately, stakeholders reached a mutually beneficial decision anticipated to conclude the house shutdown,” reported a source from the meeting.
