Labour suspends protests following meeting with Tinubu
Workers have called off the nationwide protest that began on Wednesday after the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and that of the Trade Union Congress led by Comrade Festus Usifo met with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.
According to a statement released last night by Dele Alake for the Presidency, the action was taken in response to a fruitful and candid discussion with the President, as well as their confidence in his ability to encourage open and honest consideration of all issues raised by the Labour Movement.
“They opted for further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding issues as they affect working people and Nigerians in general,” the statement continued.
“President Tinubu assured the Labour leaders that after the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and “President Tinubu assured the Labour leaders that he would continue to work for the best interests of Nigeria while pleading with the Labour leaders to join hands with him to birth a better and economically buoyant country.”
