The Labour Party’s Arabambi has confirmed that Peter Obi will contest against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, setting the stage for a major political showdown.
As the 2027 general elections approach, Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), stated that President Bola Tinubu will not have an easy path.
“Arabambi mentioned on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme that Tinubu will face challenges in 2027, as Peter Obi is returning to demonstrate their dedication.”
In the 2023 presidential election, Obi was the candidate for the Labour Party (LP) but was defeated by Tinubu, who represented the All Progressives Congress (APC). Obi finished in third place behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a former Vice President.
Arabambi criticized actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo for his decision to leave the party.
He characterized Okonkwo’s departure as a relief for the party, which is strategizing to unseat the current administration by 2027.
He questioned Okonkwo’s loyalty to the LP, alleging that he was collaborating with President Tinubu and the ruling APC.
“We wish Kenneth Okonkwo all the best, although his resignation is a relief to us. He should refrain from discussing the Labour Party further,” Arabambi remarked.
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party, and it is not facing extinction. These claims are merely products of our detractors’ imaginations,” he added.
