The Labour Party’s National Working Committee has denounced the suspension of its national chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, by the executives of Ward 3 in Arue-Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government, as invalid.

According to OBASANJONEWS, the State Working Committee approved the alleged suspension of the party’s national chairman in Benin City on the night of Friday, May 24, 2024.

In response to this suspension, the National Working Committee of the party clarified on Saturday, May 25, 2024, that the national chairman had not been suspended by the Ward 3 executives in Arue-Uromi, Esan North East of Edo State.

The statement issued by the national publicity secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, on May 25, 2024, highlighted that the ward chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, did not possess the authority under the party’s constitution to remove or suspend a national chairman.

Ifoh also mentioned that Thompson Ehiguese, the ward chairman, had publicly refuted the suspension in a viral video, emphasizing the ward’s loyalty to the chairman and acknowledging the lack of power to suspend a national chairman.

He further explained that neither the ward, local government, nor the state had the constitutional authority to suspend the national chairman, citing a Court of Appeal ruling that supported this stance.

The party’s leadership is currently investigating the origin of the suspension letter and will take appropriate disciplinary action against any party official found guilty of violating party rules.
